You’ll learn the three styles of vogue (Femme, New Way, Old Way) and find out about ball culture too - both how it was first created by LGBTQ people of colour in Harlem and the new scene in Montreal. Rigorous warm ups to increase your stamina, strength and flexibility. Drills to develop your lines, coordination, rhythm and musicality. Class will end with a guided freestyle or a combination. Come get ready to walk the next ball or to enjoy in a spirit of community.

For my bio:

Gerard Reyes is a choreographer, dancer and teacher based in Montreal. Gerard’s work seeks both to draw mainstream attention to the underrepresented and to promote pleasure, social inclusion and individual agency.

As a dancer, Gerard has worked with internationally-renowned choreographers including including Jérôme Bel, Benoît Lachambre, Luther Brown and Marie Chouinard. In 2013, Gerard studied with legendary voguers including Archie Burnett, Javier and Benny Ninja, Danielle Polanco and Amazon Leiomy. In 2017 Gerard established a ballroom scene in Montreal for LGBTQ+ youth through teaching weekly vogue classes and organizing kiki balls.  He is dedicated to teaching vogue to people of all skill levels because he believes in its unique potential to empower everyone, regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation and dance proficiency.
